Violence Against Women

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1889 on women, peace and security on October 5, 2009. Resolution 1889 established indicators for the monitoring of resolution 1325 and requests the Secretary-General to submit a report on women's participation and inclusion in peacebuilding. The resolution focuses on post-conflict peacebuilding and on women's participation in all stages of the peace process.

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 1960 on women, peace and security on December 16, 2010. The resolution established a monitoring and reporting mechanism on sexual violence in conflict. 

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2106 on women, peace and security on June 24, 2013. The resolution stresses accountability for perpetrators of sexual violence in conflict, as well as women's political and economic empowerment.

The United Nations Security Council adopted resolution 2122 on women, peace and security on October 18, 2013. The resolution positions gender equality and women's empowerment as critical to international peace and security, recognizes the differential impact of all violations in conflict on women and girls, and calls for consistent application of WPS across the Security Council's work.
