In 1996 Sisterhood is Global Institute (SIGI) hosted a forum called Beijing and Beyond, drawing Muslim women scholars and activists from all over the world to discuss the 1995 Beijing Platform for Action. Following the forum, a small group of women leaders gathered for an in-depth discussion about the cultural and historical roles of women in Muslim majority societies.
Mahnaz Afkhami (Iran), Yakin Ertürk (Turkey), and Ann Elizabeth Mayer (USA) are interviewed in the GrOW Research Bulletin about their role as editors of the book, Feminist Advocacy, Family Law and Violence Against Women: International Perspectives (2018). The interview covers many topics including their motivation for publishing the work and the role of international feminist advocacy to reform family law.
As part of the CSW65 Virtual NGO CSW Forum, WLP brought together leading women's rights advocates for a discussion on reforming discriminatory family laws that limit women’s access to financial independence and stability, including inheritance laws, property rights, early marriage, travel restrictions, access to education, and more.
