Heyzer (Singapore) is the Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission of Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). In the past, she headed the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), while at UNIFEM, promoted women’s rights and security in over 100 countries around the world. Dr. Heyzer has been awarded numerous awards including the Singapore Press Holdings Women of the Year Award in 2008 and the Women’s Equality Award in 2007 awarded by the American National Council of Women’s Organization.
