Women’s Learning Partnership (WLP) expresses its solidarity with the Tunisian Association of Democratic Women (ATFD), whose activities have been suspended by Tunisian authorities. This decision constitutes a grave violation of the fundamental freedoms of association and expression, and a serious setback for gender equality, democracy, and human rights in Tunisia.
ATFD is a pioneering feminist organization whose courageous advocacy has shaped generations of women’s rights and democratic reform efforts since its founding in 1989. As a member of our MENA regional network, ATFD has stood at the forefront of the struggle against authoritarianism and systemic discrimination, working tirelessly to advance gender equality before the law and women’s participation in public life.
Women’s Learning Partnership and its local partners across the Global South stand united in affirming that an attack on one autonomous women’s organization is an attack on all of us. The silencing of feminist voices threatens not only Tunisian women’s rights but also the broader regional and global movement for gender justice, democracy, and human dignity.
We call on:
- The Tunisian authorities to immediately lift the suspension of ATFD, restore its legal status, and guarantee the freedom of association and expression of all civil society organizations.
- Women’s rights and human rights movements worldwide to mobilize in defense of ATFD and the principles of democratic participation, equality, and justice.
- Regional and international institutions to hold Tunisia accountable to its obligations under international law, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
As a transnational partnership of 20+ women-led organizations across the Global South, WLP stands firmly with ATFD and with all women human rights defenders facing repression. We affirm our collective commitment to upholding the right to organize, to speak, and to act for equality and justice – rights that are fundamental to democracy itself.

بيان تضامني مع المدافعات عن حقوق الإنسان بتونس
تُعبّر شراكة التعلم النسائي (WLP) عن تضامنها مع الجمعية التونسية للنساء الديمقراطيات، والتي تم تعليق نشاطها من طرف السلطات التونسية. يُشكّل هذا القرار انتهاكاً جسيماً للحريات الأساسية، ولا سيما حرية تكوين الجمعيات وحرية التعبير؛وكذلك انتكاسة خطيرة في مجال المساواة بين الجنسين والديمقراطية وحقوق الإنسان في تونس.
تُعدّ الجمعية التونسية للنساء الديمقراطيات منظمة نسائية رائدة، شكّلت جهودها الشجاعة في الدفاع عن حقوق النساء والإصلاح الديمقراطي مصدر إلهام لأجيال متعاقبة منذ تأسيسها سنة 1989. وبصفتها عضواً في الشبكة الإقليمية في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وشمال إفريقيا، كانت الجمعية دائماً في طليعة النضال ضد الاستبداد والتمييز المنهجي، وعملت بلا كلل من أجل تعزيز المساواة بين الجنسين أمام القانون وتمكين النساء من المشاركة في الحياة العامة.
تؤكد شراكة التعلم النسائي (WLP) وشركاؤها المحليون في جميع بلدان الجنوب على أن الهجوم على منظمة نسائية مستقلة هو هجوم علينا جميعاً. إن إسكات الأصوات النسائية لا يهدد حقوق النساء في تونس فحسب، بل يهدد أيضاً مجمل الحركة النسائية الإقليمية والعالمية من أجل العدالة بين الجنسين والديمقراطية والكرامة الإنسانية.
ندعو:
- السلطات التونسية إلى رفع تعليق نشاط الجمعية التونسية للنساء الديمقراطيات على الفور، وتمكينها من استعادة وضعها القانوني، وضمان حرية تكوين الجمعيات وحرية التعبير لجميع منظمات المجتمع المدني.
- حركات حقوق النساء وحقوق الإنسان في جميع أنحاء العالم إلى التعبئة دفاعاً عن الجمعية التونسية للنساء الديمقراطيات وعن مبادئ المشاركة الديمقراطية والمساواة والعدالة.
- المؤسسات الإقليمية والدولية إلى محاسبة تونس على الإخلال بالتزاماتها اتجاه القانون الدولي، بما في ذلك اتفاقية القضاء على جميع أشكال التمييز ضد المرأة (سيداو – CEDAW).
وبصفتنا شراكةً عابرة للحدود تضم أكثر من عشرين منظمة تقودها نساء في بلدان الجنوب، تقف شراكة التعلم النسائي (WLP) بقوة إلى جانب الجمعية التونسية للنساء الديمقراطيات وجميع المدافعات عن حقوق الإنسان اللواتي يواجهن القمع.
ونؤكد التزامنا الجماعي بالدفاع عن الحق في التنظيم والتعبير والعمل من أجل المساواة والعدالة – وهي حقوق أساسية للديمقراطية نفسها.
