Nayla  Moawad, Rene Moawad Foundation

Nayla Moawad is a member of the Lebanese Parliament serving on the Budget and Finance Committee, Women's and Children's Rights Committee, and the Telecommunications Committe. She began her career in politics in 1989 and since that time has fought for human rights, freedom of expression, social justice, and good governance in Lebanon. Ms. Moawad is a Founding Member of "Kornet Chehwane," a political group sponsored by the Maronite Church and main opposition force in Lebanon and Founding Member of the "Democratic Forum," a Muslim and Christian political force striving for political transparency, national reconciliation, and freedom of expression.

Ms. Moawad is also Founder and President of the Rene Moawad Foundation. She founded the organization in honor of her husband, the former President of Lebanon. The foundation works to promote the development of civil-society based on dialogue, peace, and social justice and the economic and social development of rural Lebanon. She serves on the boards of St. Joseph University in Lebanon, National Commission for Lebanese Women, the Lebanese Social Sciences Association
