Summary

This manual for trainers and activists in the Global South can be used by an individual or as curriculum in a workshop on using Information Technology (IT) and social media to promote women's human rights and social justice. Training sessions focus on gaining fluency in social networks and blogs, office productivity software such as word processing and spreadsheets, internet tools such as RSS feeds and web conferencing, and skills such as being able to establish online privacy and security. Making IT Our Own uses an assemble-your-own approach so that trainers can customize trainings to suit different audiences. The manual explores issues relating to gender and technology, and uses scenarios from everyday life to contextualize the lessons.
