Suheir Azzouni is the former Director General of the Women’s Affairs Technical Committee (WATC), a highly esteemed Palestinian coalition NGO working towards eliminating discrimination against women and establishing a democratic society that respects human rights. She was instrumental in developing WATC from a voluntary organization in 1992 to one of the largest and most effective NGOs in Palestine today, and successfully led efforts to reverse several pieces of legislation discriminating against women and helping to mainstream gender in Palestinian society.

Ms. Azzouni serves on the Advisory Board of the Gender Consultative Council of the Middle East/North Africa region for the World Bank and as a consultant for human rights and gender. She has worked as a trainer and program evaluator in Bangladesh, Jordan, Palestine, and Tanzania and most recently was selected by IIEP/UNESCO to provide gender training to the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Women's Affairs in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Ms. Azzouni holds a Masters Degree in Gender, Law and Development from Birzeit University in Palestine, a Diploma in Human Rights from Lund University (Sweden), a BSc in Chemistry with a diploma in Education from Birzeit University, and was trained as an international trainer with Women's Law and Development International. Ms. Azzouni publishes and lectures on issues of Palestinian women’s rights. Among her published articles are “Palestinian Women and Equal Status in Society” and “My Daughter Deserves a Better Future.”
