Clinton Ends Historic Bid to be America’s First Female President

“If we can blast 50 women into space, we will someday launch a woman into the White House”, asserted United States Senator Hillary Clinton, who officially suspended her historic bid for the White House on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C. Below are some memorable sections from her concession speech that carried strong women’s rights messages and that should be remembered. Let’s hope the momentum of this speech and more importantly the campaign of Hillary Clinton will continue on.

Network activities are coordinated at national and regional levels. The following organizations and individuals volunteered at the IWDN general meeting in Istanbul, Turkey in April 2006 to play a regional coordinating role:

• Africa: Sindi Medar-Gould of BAOBAB for Women’s Human Rights (Nigeria),
• Asia: Pushpa Bhusal of the Nepali Congress (Nepal),
• The Caucasus and Central Asia: Julia Kharashvili of Women’s Network “Working Together”,
• Europe: Olexandra Rudneva of Kharkiv Center for Women’s Studies (Ukraine), and
• Middle East, North Africa, and Gulf: Lina Quora of Sisterhood Is Global Institute/Jordan (Jordan) and Amal al Basha of Sisters Arabic Forum For Human Rights (Yemen) .
