Campaign for Equality is the second volume in the WLP Translation Series which aims to increase the availability of feminist works produced in the Global South.

Eloquently written by Noushin Ahmadi Khorasani, Iranian Women's One Million Signatures Campaign for Equality: The Inside Story details the history, strategies, and values that brought together a diverse group of Iranian women, men, and rights activists for the well-known women’s equality campaign. It is a valuable case study of a new model for grassroots movements in the twenty-first century, applicable not only in societies ruled by autocratic governments or influenced by radical fundamentalism, but also in more open and tolerant societies that have yet to achieve full equality for women.

The first in WLP's Translation Series, Guide to Equality in the Family in the Maghreb is an innovative advocacy tool for reform of the family law in Muslim-majority societies. The Guide outlines a process that relates meaningful social change to women's capability to make deliberate and thoughtful choices.

Family law in Muslim-majority societies governs every aspect of a woman's life - from minimum age and conditions of marriage, to divorce, child custody, and the right to work, travel, or decide on a place of residence. The reform of family law is therefore crucial to women's ability to participate on equal terms in both family life and public life. In each thematic module, the Guide presents the current state of the law, then proposes religious, human rights, sociological, and domestic legal arguments for reform, well-supported by relevant data.

In 2005, WLP published the English edition of the Guide to increase the availability of feminist works produced in the Global South. In 2007, WLP published the Persian edition for use by Afghan women’s rights activists and by Iranian women’s rights activists in the One Million Signatures campaign for equal legal rights for women.

"This anthology addresses the urgent need for empowerment of women in a very sensitive and vital part of the global community. The Muslim world today is in the midst of great intellectual, cultural, and political ferment. This book provides necessary guidelines for various Muslim societies to join the twenty-first century with a sense for potential accomplishments."
-Dr. Clovis Maksoud, Director, Center for the Global South, American University

Muslim Women and the Politics of Participation is about ways of promoting women's participation in the affairs of Muslim societies: from raising consciousness and changing codes of law to penetrating the economic markets and influencing national and international policies. Editors Mahnaz Afkhami and Erika Friedl challenge stereotypes about Muslim women and probe the difficulties and possibilities women face as they work for positive social change. Sixteen activists and politicians from international organizations - most from Muslim countries - discuss, for the first time, major issues relevant to Muslim women striving to achieve their human rights through political participation.

Faith and Freedom is the first detailed study to emphasize Muslim women's rights as human rights and to explore the existing patriarchal structures and processes that present women's human rights as contradictory to Islam. Academics and activists, most of whom live in the Muslim world, discuss the major issues facing women of the region as they enter the twenty-first century. They demonstrate how the cultural segregation of women, contradictory and conflicting legal codes, and the monopoly on the interpretation of religious texts held by a select group of male theologians, have resulted in domestic and political violence against women and the suppression of their rights. The contributors focus on ways and means of empowering Muslim women to participate in the general socialization process as well as in implementing and evaluating public policy.
