Partnership Update: WLP & Partners Hold Transnational Capacity Building Meeting
Over 30 women leaders representing 19 partner organizations of Women’s Learning Partnership gathered in Potomac, Maryland, April 1st-4th, for the annual Transnational Partners Convening. Women from Africa, Asia, Latin America, North America, and the Middle East shared experiences and explored strategies for increasing the number of women in decision making positions and expanding awareness and expertise about the ways and means of promoting participatory and democratic leadership; participated in an exercise positing the world we would wish to create by the year 2018, and studied the steps needed to achieve that world; and deliberated on sustainable institution building and future directions of the Partnership. Participants tackled organizational growth and human resource challenges, and considered strategies for expanding the Partnership’s reach to broader audiences. ( categories:

Event Update: WLP Convenes Workshops and Trainings at the Fifth Assembly of the World Movement for Democracy
WLP organized three workshops and a series of IT trainings at the Fifth Assembly of The World Movement for Democracy convened in Kiev, Ukraine, April 6-9. Association, Assembly, and Advocacy: What Are the Best Strategies and Tactics for NGOs in Restrictive Legal Environments? In this workshop moderated by Asma Khader of Sisterhood is Global Institute/Jordan, Chee Siok Chin of Alliance for Reform and Democracy in Asia (ARDA) in Singapore, Tolekan Ismailova, Director of the Human Rights Center "Citizens Against Corruption" in Kyrgyzstan, Marfua Tokhtakhodjaeva, Founder and Co-Director of the Women’s Resource Centre of Tashkent, and Sakena Yacoobi, Founder and Executive Director of the Afghan Institute of Learning in Afghanistan discussed the nature of the restrictions they face, the socio-political and cultural contexts in which they work, and the strategies they employ to overcome obstacles. Event Highlight: WLP Participates in Women, Faith, and Development Alliance’s “Breakthrough Summit”
On April 13-15th, Women’s Learning Partnership joined forces with other internationally-focused women, faith, and development organizations to convene a "Breakthrough Summit" to launch the Women, Faith, and Development Alliance (WFDA). The Alliance, a unique and unprecedented coalition of faith, development, and women’s groups, seeks to give new focus and energy to the global efforts to reduce poverty by increasing investments in women's and girls' empowerment around the world. Madeleine Albright, Kim Campbell, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Queen Noor, Mary Robinson, Desmond Tutu, and Muhammad Yunus are among the Alliance Co-Chairs. ( categories:

New Publication Hightlight: WLP Manual Makes "IT" Our OwnMaking IT Our Own: Information & Communication Technology Training of Trainers Manual, Women’s Learning Partnership’s newest publication, seeks to improve the technology skills of women activists and to introduce ways in which Information Technology (IT) can be used for human rights and women’s rights advocacy. Intended for use in information & communication technology (ICT) training workshops and training-of-trainer institutes, the Manual encourages activists to establish ownership of ICTs so that women can be both consumers of information and producers of knowledge.

Network Highlight: Online Museum Features Work of WLP
Women's Learning Partnership invites you to the International Museum of Women's new global online exhibition Women, Power and Politics. Using essays, art, film and political cartoons, IMOW tells the untold stories of women claiming and exercising their power to transform our world. From March 8th to December 31st, the Museum will focus on a provocative new topic each month, thus far including: What difference do women make?; What does power look like?; and Is biology destiny?. Visitors are encouraged to become a member of the online community, participate in blogs and surveys, and take action to support campaigns. ( categories:
