International Museum of Women“I love that women from all over the world are represented in so many subject areas. I also appreciate that there is no topic too 'small' or insignificant to be represented. The site embraces women everywhere, regardless of the nature of their struggles and passions. ”
The International Museum of Women is a unique social change museum with an online network of individuals and organizations dedicated to valuing the lives of women around the world. IMOW's vision is to promote gender equity and contribute to a world free from gender discrimination and inequality. This vision guides IMOW's organizational goals:
Through art, history, culture, and the power of the Internet, IMOW offers award-winning online exhibitions that educate, create global dialogue, and inspire action to better the lives of women and the world. IMOW online exhibitions reach a global audience in Arabic, English, French and Spanish. Women's Learning Partnership is a proud partner of these exhibitions: Women, Power and Politics is one of the most comprehensive online guides to women's political participation worldwide. Through interviews, video, maps, cartoons, art, and essays, Women, Power and Politics tells the remarkable stories of women claiming and exercising their power to transform their communities. Listen to the interview "Benazir Bhutto and Beyond" with Masuma Hasan of WLP Pakistan/Aurat Foundation.
Imagining Ourselves has had more than a million participants. The project includes a published anthology, a series of global events, and this dynamic multilingual online exhibition that incorporates film, photography, music, poetry and personal essays—all responding to the question: "What Defines Your Generation of Women?" Additionally, IMOW's online community connects individuals and organizations from more than 200 countries. Its dynamic forums and networking features allow women to exchange powerful new ideas and showcase their creative work. Community registrants can submit their own artwork, writing or video to be featured on the IMOW website. IMOW also organizes a popular Speaker Series in San Francisco, featuring women from around the world who have made profound and unprecedented political, social and economic changes in the lives of women. Youth outreach initiatives and the creation of educational materials are also among the programs the museum has created to reach, inspire and transform the minds and hearts of youth and students at every developmental stage. The IMOW Global Council, chaired by WLP President Mahnaz Afkhami, is a diverse group of international activists and leaders that advises the museum on its direction and programmatic initiatives.
