Women who marry foreigners cannot obtain citizenship for their husbands or children. The discrimination in citizenship laws means there are “stateless” children in the Gulf. Bahrain has roughly 2,000. Kuwait: 8,000, and the United Arab Emirates: 14,000.

أعربت الحملة الوطنية حول حق منح الجنسية لأبناء المرأة البحرينية عن شكرها وتقديرها لعاهل البلاد بعد صدور الأمر الملكي السامي بشأن مرسوم بقانون 35 والذي يتضمن معاملة زوجة البحريني غير البحرينية وأبناء البحرينية المتزوجة من غير بحريني معاملة المواطن البحريني في كل ما يخص الرسوم المقررة على الخدمات الحكومية والصحية والتعليمية ورسوم الإقامة شريطة الإقامة الدائمة في البحرين.

‘Give our children right to identity’

The Bahrain Women’s Association for Human Development has organised the drive, under the slogan My Nationality is My Right and that of My Children. It is demanding that Bahraini women be able to extend their nationality to their children – regardless of their husbands’ nationality.
