Over 3000 Signatures On Lebanon Petition

Over 2464 students from different Lebanese universities and campuses signed the petition during the campaign’s activities between March - May 2006.

In addition, the regional seminars held in five areas in Lebanon during June – July 2006 (Tripoli, Mount Lebanon, Baalbak, Beirut, and Khyam) gathered the support of over 500 signatures from MPs, CSO and NGOs activists, women concerned.

There are OVER 3000 signatures for the petition in Lebanon right now!

The “Claiming Equal Citizenship” international campaign launched with fanfare on Sep 6, 2006. The fanfare in this case was a panel discussion on “Women as Equal Citizens: Advocating for Change in Muslim-Majority Societies.” Panelists included Lina Abou-Habib (CRTD.A, Lebanon), Mahnaz Afkhami (WLP, USA/Iran), Asma Khader (SIGI/J, Jordan), and Amina Lemrini (ADFM, Morocco).

CRTD-A Collects Over 450 Signatures in Two Days

The President of the Women’s Rights Club, Rania Jaber, opened the event with the announcement that the campaign had collected over 450 signatures. The event included two days of campaign-related activities in which attendees had an opportunity to read over educational materials about nationality rights as well as listen to a panel discussing the legal opportunities for women and their families.

SIGI/J Seminars on Women’s Citizenship on National Agenda

SIGI/J facilitated six local seminars on the topic of “Women’s Citizenship on National Agenda” to create awareness and foster discussions about women’s citizenship rights. More than 290 participants, including members of the Parliament’s lower and upper houses, local civil society organizations, and activists took part in the proceedings.
