Claiming Equal Citizenship

Young Jordanian activists have developed an online campaign for equal citizenship for women. The campaign petitions members of the Jordanian parliament, demanding implementation of existing laws guaranteeing equality in citizenship rights.

Although women are guaranteed equal citizenship status by most Arab constitutions, nationality laws discriminate against them. If they marry a non-national, women cannot confer their nationality on to their spouse, and worse, on to their children.
