Campaign Launch Podcast #6 of 6: Question and Answer Session
This is the sixth and final podcast from the “Claiming Equal Citizenship” launch event. This is a podcast of the Question and Answer Session at the event.
In the open discussion following presentations, participants asked questions and made recommendations on the topic of women’s nationality rights based on their studies and experiences.
The panel responded to issues like the origin of the discriminatory laws which were not culturally imposed but were a product of the advent of colonialism when borders were established in the region.
One audience member from Indonesia shared with the group that there was very little awareness of the issue of discriminatory nationality laws in her country. She thought the event was a great learning experience for her and that other countries in Asia could really benefit from hearing about what other countries are doing to advance women’s citizenship rights.
Other audience members echoed her in talking about the discriminatory citizenship laws in their countries and hoped that the campaign can be expanded to other regions as well.
