Essay Contest Finalists: Group 1, Ages 14-18

Posted on 19 February 2010 by wlp

Almost immediately after we announced the youth essay contest to celebrate the 30th anniversary of CEDAW, there were numerous requests/suggestions to expand the age group to include contestants in the 14-18 age group. Bowing to this popular demand, we have decided to create a separate group (yay!) and add another to-be-determined prize (double yay!).

Drum roll please – here are the five finalists (ordered by first name) in Group 1, Ages 14-18:

The essays were graded on three criteria: Awareness of the Problem (35 marks), Ideas for the Solution (55 marks), and Communication and Writing (10 marks). The scores are weighted heavily in favor of those essays that suggest comprehensive solutions to advance gender rights.

The prize winner will be announced at WLP’s event in New York City on March 5 2020 Vision: Mobilizing for Women’s Rights and Eliminating Violence against Women.

It will be great if you can share your appreciation of our young finalists by adding a feedback or comment. The essays that get the most comments will receive a special audience choice prize, so don’t wait, vote with your comment.

Finalists in Group 2, Ages 18-25, will be announced next week.
