Training Manuals

Leadership

Our signature manual Leading to Choices: A Leadership Training Handbook for Women has been used in interactive leadership training workshops with thousands of participants in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Building on the success of this manual, we developed Leading to Choices: A Multimedia Curriculum for Leadership Learning, which consists of three videos on effective communication, interactive facilitation, and advocacy for change, and has been used in training of trainers for hundreds of NGO leaders and activists.

Yes I Can: Youth manual Leadership for Teens focuses on the transformative leadership capacities of girls and boys, and helps workshop participants develop collective solutions.

Political Participation

Leading to Action: A Political Participation Handbook for Women is a learning tool for those challenging themselves to play a more significant role in their communities. The handbook contains ten sessions examining the barriers to political participation and strategies for ethical political leadership. Also included in the appendices are resources for political activity at local, national, and international levels.

Human Rights Advocacy

Beyond Equality: A Manual for Human Rights Defenders is a tool for reigniting conversations about the relevance of human rights to the struggle for women’s freedom and advancement. We hope it will introduce new generations of activists to the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and other human rights mechanisms. For those already well acquainted with international human rights law, the manual’s workshop sessions can provide a forum for frank conversation about the contradictions and conflicts that arise in promoting human rights and can help advocates develop new strategies for addressing them.

Violence Against Women and Girls

Finally, we have developed a practitioners' manual on eliminating violence against women and girls, Victories over Violence: Ensuring Safety for Women and Girls, which explores the linkages between violence in the private, public and global realms while underscoring the point that gender-based human rights violations are ubiquitous and defy cultural, economic, ethnic, political, religious and other divisions. The resulting dialogue allows the participants to identify and prioritize their concerns and to recognize obstacles as they strive to prevent violence and to vindicate the human rights of those victimized by it.

Evaluation

Looking at the systematic evaluation and monitoring of the effects of WLP's leadership trainings in women's lives and their communities, we developed a guide for organizations, Measuring Change: Monitoring and Evaluating Leadership Programs.

ICT

Our innovative technology trainer's manual, Making IT Our Own: Information & Communication Technology Training of Trainers Manual, provides technology skills for gender justice and human rights advocacy. The manual takes an assemble-your-own approach to ICT trainings so that trainers can customize and deliver effective technology trainings of their own suited to their communities.
